Choose Heritage Urgent & Primary Care for Your
Biometric Screening
in Wake Forest & Raleigh

Biometric screening is a method of developing a clinical assessment of key health measures and is often done in conjunction with a health risk assessment questionnaire, which gathers information concerning an individual’s health status and lifestyle behaviors. Biometric screenings are typically performed to identify a health condition or increased health risk of developing a health condition, such as heart disease or diabetes. Once this information is gathered, individuals can take proactive steps to either treat their health issue or engage in preventative measures to ensure that the issue does not develop. Additional reasons for performing a biometric screening include:

  • Identify individuals whose health would be improved with health coaching
  • Provide participants with the support they need to make healthy choices
  • Allow for results-based incentive programs using validated data
  • Measure outcomes over time

What to Expect with Biometric Screening

Prior to your biometric screening, you will need to fast for 9-12 hours in order to get accurate results. You may drink plain tea, black coffee, or water during this fasting period.

The biometric screening typically involves a measurement of several physical characteristics and collection of a small blood sample

Physical characteristics that are evaluated include:

  • Blood pressure: Calculate risk for cardiovascular disease
  • Height and weight: Body mass index is calculated to measure for obesity
  • Body fat percentage: Alternative method for measuring obesity
  • Hip: Measurement of abdominal obesity and to calculate waist-to-hip ratio
  • Waist: Measurement of abdominal obesity and to determine risk of diabetes
  • Neck: Determine risk of sleep apnea

The blood sample will be collected by a finger stick or venous blood draw. If the blood sample is collected using a blood draw, the samples are typically sent to a laboratory to allow for additional tests to be performed. If this approach is taken, results are typically provided within 7-10 days. Finger stick samples can be processed onsite and immediate feedback can be given. In addition to providing faster results, the finger stick is also less invasive than the venous blood draw.

Tests that may be used on the blood sample include:

  • Blood glucose: Used to calculate risk of diabetes
  • Lipids (HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides): Used to calculate risk of cardiovascular disease

The biometric screening process typically takes around 20 minutes to complete and is often required to be performed annually to remain enrolled in your company’s wellness program.

Cost of Care Transparency
at Heritage Urgent & Primary Care

A visit to the hospital for a biometric screening can cost a substantial amount of money and take much longer for you to receive the care you need. At Heritage Urgent & Primary Care, our board-certified providers can provide you with high-quality care in a timely and cost-effective manner. If you require health services and are concerned about the cost involved, please refer to the following overview of our clinic’s policies. If you have any additional questions concerning billing, insurance, and/or payment options, please contact our staff.

Understand Insurance and Medicare Medicaid

All visits are billed under Primary Care and Primary Care Copay. We accept Medicare and are In Network with most major insurance providers and are happy to provide you with a list of accepted providers to ensure you are covered. If co-payments are required by your insurance plan, this will need to be paid prior to your appointment before check in. If you are not able to pay your co-payment, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. It is also important to be aware that not all services are covered through insurance plans. If your insurance company determines that a service is not covered, it will be your responsibility to pay the remaining balance.

Out-of-Network and
Self-pay Accounts

If you are not covered by insurance, or if your provider is out of network, you will be responsible for the entire charge of the appointment. If you are not able to pay the full balance of your bill, please contact our billing office at 866-557-2612. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the care you need and will do our best to help set up a payment plan to cover the costs of your care.

Further Payment and
Insurance Information

You will need to provide your current insurance information and bring your insurance card with you to your first visit. We also ask that you bring your card to subsequent visits so we can update your records as needed. Our staff will also help ensure that you maximize your insurance benefits and will file your claims and provide any necessary information to your insurance company.
