Nausea is the feeling that precedes vomiting, but not the actual act. Nausea can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, injuries, illnesses, or other medical conditions. If you are experiencing constant or frequent nausea for no identifiable reason, this may be an indication of an underlying health condition.

Vomiting occurs when the contents of your stomach are forced up your digestive track and out your mouth. Like nausea, vomiting can be caused by a range of factors, such as food poisoning, influenza, morning sickness, and a range of other health conditions.

Diarrhea is classified as three or more episodes of watery and loose bowel movements in a day. Like nausea and vomiting, diarrhea can be caused by a range of factors, such as food poisoning, influenza, morning sickness, and a range of other health conditions. Whether or not diarrhea is a sign of a serious underlying condition is dependent on the underlying cause and how long symptoms last. Diarrhea that lasts for one or two days is classified as acute diarrhea, whereas diarrhea that lasts for more than four weeks is classified as chronic diarrhea.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, we are here to help identify the underlying cause and provide you with the care you need.

Diagnosing and Treating Nausea

Before treating nausea, it will be necessary to identify what triggers the nausea. Some of the most common triggers for nausea include:

  • After eating: Nausea after eating may be a sign of an issue with your digestive system or the presence of a stomach ulcer. If you commonly feel nauseous after you eat, schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
  • After consuming alcohol: Nausea may occur during or following consumption of alcohol.
  • Due to an underlying condition, infection, or disease: Nausea is a common symptom of many diseases, infections, and conditions. If you are experiencing nausea along with other symptoms, it is important to have a professional healthcare provider perform an examination to diagnose the underlying issue.
  • Due to injuries and pain: Nausea may occur in conjunction with injuries and pain, such as patients who have a concussion or migraine.
  • Motion sickness: It is not uncommon for individuals to feel motion sickness on airplanes, ships, or cars.
  • Poisoning or overdose: Ingesting chemicals, breathing poison gases, and/or overdosing on medications can cause nausea. If you are experiencing nausea for any of these reasons, seek medical help immediately.
  • Psychological conditions: Depression, anxiety, fear and stress can all trigger feelings of nausea.
  • Pregnancy: Nausea (especially in the morning) is very common among pregnant women, especially during their first trimester.

Once the underlying cause of your nausea has been determined, appropriate treatment can begin, which may include anti-nausea medication or making lifestyle changes.

Diagnosing and Treating Diarrhea

Before treating diarrhea, it will be necessary to identify the underlying cause, which can be due to a variety of factors, including the following

  • Contaminated food or water: Diarrhea caused by contaminated food or water is generally not too serious and will correct itself relatively quickly. If your condition worsens or you have concerns, contact our office.
  • Conditions that affect the digestive system: There are several serious health issues associated with diarrhea, such as Crohn’s disease or colon cancer.
  • Food intolerances: Patient’s digestive issues are often due to a food intolerance, such as an intolerance to lactose or gluten. Once the food intolerance is identified, symptoms typically go away, provided you avoid those foods.
  • Medications: Diarrhea is a common side effect to many prescription and OTC medications.
  • Parasites: Diarrhea can also be caused by parasites that enter your digestive system from contaminated food and water.

Cost of Care Transparency
at Heritage Urgent & Primary Care

A visit to the hospital or emergency room to treat nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea can cost a substantial amount of money and take much longer for you to receive the care you need. At Heritage Urgent & Primary Care, our board-certified providers can provide you with high-quality care in a timely and cost-effective manner. If you require health services and are concerned about the cost involved, please refer to the following overview of our clinic’s policies. If you have any additional questions concerning billing, insurance, and/or payment options, please contact our staff.

Understand Insurance and Medicare Medicaid

All visits are billed under Primary Care and Primary Care Copay. We accept Medicare and are In Network with most major insurance providers and are happy to provide you with a list of accepted providers to ensure you are covered. If co-payments are required by your insurance plan, this will need to be paid prior to your appointment before check in. If you are not able to pay your co-payment, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. It is also important to be aware that not all services are covered through insurance plans. If your insurance company determines that a service is not covered, it will be your responsibility to pay the remaining balance.

Out-of-Network and
Self-pay Accounts

If you are not covered by insurance, or if your provider is out of network, you will be responsible for the entire charge of the appointment. If you are not able to pay the full balance of your bill, please contact our billing office at 866-557-2612. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the care you need and will do our best to help set up a payment plan to cover the costs of your care.

Further Payment and
Insurance Information

You will need to provide your current insurance information and bring your insurance card with you to your first visit. We also ask that you bring your card to subsequent visits so we can update your records as needed. Our staff will also help ensure that you maximize your insurance benefits and will file your claims and provide any necessary information to your insurance company.
