Types of Rashes

There are a range of different types of rashes, the most common of which include:

  • Bacterial/Viral Rashes: Illnesses and diseases like chickenpox, rubella, measles  and other viruses can cause viral rashes. Meningitis can be viral or bacterial, presenting with a petechial rash, and impetigo presents with a bacterial rash.
  • Diaper Rash: A form of dermatitis on babies’ bottoms that may be caused by prolonged exposure to feces or urine, chafing, or a yeast infection.
  • Eczema: Chronic inflammatory condition caused by an overactive immune response and allergies.
  • Fungal Rash: Common fungal infections that cause skin rashes, including jock itch, athlete’s foot, scalp ringworm, ringworm, and yeast infections.
  • Heat Rash: Hot weather can block sweat glands which causes heat rash, which can be exacerbated by poor circulation and dampness. Wearing loose clothing during hot weather reduces your risk of developing heat rash.
  • Hives: Can be caused by stress, immune response, or an allergic reaction causing welts and often itching.
  • Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac: All three plants contain urushiol oil, which commonly triggers an allergy rash. Medical intervention may be necessary if the rash is affecting sensitive areas like the eyes or mouth or is covering extensive areas of the skin.
  • Psoriasis: Non-contagious autoimmune skin disease whose symptoms are silvery scales and thick red skin patches.
  • Rash from Insects: Stings and bites of insects (bed bugs, mosquitos, chiggers, ticks) can cause a rash, some of which may require medical attention.

Treating a Rash

Treatment of a rash will be dependent on the underlying cause of the rash.

  • Common rashes: Prescription or over-the-counter treatments such as calamine lotion or hydrocortisone
  • Allergic rashes: Poison ivy or hives can often be treated with oral antihistamines
  • Insect bites: The rash may not be serious and will often go away naturally or with prescription or over-the-counter treatments, though it is important to seek medical attention if the rash is accompanied with body aches, fever, and/or a headache special care and attention.
  • Heat rashes: Often go away naturally provided light and loose clothing are worn during hot weather
  • Illnesses: The rash may not be serious, but it is important to get a medical diagnosis to determine the underlying cause

Cost of Care Transparency
at Heritage Urgent & Primary Care

A visit to the hospital or emergency room to treat a rash or dermatological issue can cost a substantial amount of money and take much longer for you to receive the care you need. At Heritage Urgent & Primary Care, our board-certified providers can provide you with high-quality care in a timely and cost-effective manner. If you require health services and are concerned about the cost involved, please refer to the following overview of our clinic’s policies. If you have any additional questions concerning billing, insurance, and/or payment options, please contact our staff.

Understand Insurance and Medicare Medicaid

All visits are billed under Primary Care and Primary Care Copay. We accept Medicare and are In Network with most major insurance providers and are happy to provide you with a list of accepted providers to ensure you are covered. If co-payments are required by your insurance plan, this will need to be paid prior to your appointment before check in. If you are not able to pay your co-payment, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. It is also important to be aware that not all services are covered through insurance plans. If your insurance company determines that a service is not covered, it will be your responsibility to pay the remaining balance.

Out-of-Network and
Self-pay Accounts

If you are not covered by insurance, or if your provider is out of network, you will be responsible for the entire charge of the appointment. If you are not able to pay the full balance of your bill, please contact our billing office at 866-557-2612. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the care you need and will do our best to help set up a payment plan to cover the costs of your care.

Further Payment and
Insurance Information

You will need to provide your current insurance information and bring your insurance card with you to your first visit. We also ask that you bring your card to subsequent visits so we can update your records as needed. Our staff will also help ensure that you maximize your insurance benefits and will file your claims and provide any necessary information to your insurance company.
